Welcome to Professor Madrid. These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Professor Madrid ("we", "us", "our") covering your use of the Professor Madrid mobile app and website (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Professor Madrid is an AI-assisted Spanish-learning app. It offers an AI chat tutor, spoken (voice) replies, a repeat-audio vocabulary memoriser ("El Loro"), a verb-conjugation game, and contextual imagery powered by Street View. Because these features are generated live by artificial intelligence, they have a real cost to operate, which is reflected in the treats system described in Section 4.
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, if higher) to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may only use the Service with the involvement of a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms.
You sign in using Sign in with Apple or Google. You are responsible for keeping access to your sign-in method secure and for all activity that happens under your account. You must provide accurate information and not impersonate anyone else.
In short: "Treats" are an in-app virtual credit that powers the AI features. You buy them once through the App Store and spend them as you learn. Treats are not money, have no cash value, and are non-refundable except where required by law or by Apple's policies.
Treats are a virtual, in-app currency used solely within Professor Madrid. They are a limited, personal, non-transferable licence to access AI features. Treats are not legal tender, cannot be exchanged for cash, and have no value outside the Service.
Treats are deducted from your balance when you use AI-powered features. There is no free daily allowance for any of these — every use is charged. Approximate costs, current as of this update:
These figures may be adjusted over time as our costs and features change; the app itself is always the current source of truth — open Profile → your treats balance → Get Treats → Full pricing details for the live, in-app breakdown of exactly what each action costs and how top-ups work.
New accounts receive a one-time grant of free treats so you can try the Service. This trial grant is a marketing benefit, may vary, and may be changed or withdrawn at any time. The Service is not free to use on an ongoing basis. Once your treat balance reaches zero, every feature listed in Section 4.2 requires a treat pack purchase to continue — none of them have a recurring free allowance. Signing in, reviewing past sessions, and reviewing already-learned words in Memorise are not AI-generated and are not gated by treats. When an action would take your balance below zero, the app blocks that specific action before any AI request is made (so you are never charged for something that didn't happen) and shows an in-app message directing you to purchase more. We do not guarantee any free usage beyond the initial trial grant.
Treats are sold as consumable in-app purchases through the Apple App Store in fixed packs. Larger packs include bonus treats, so the effective price per treat is lower. All payments are processed by Apple under the Apple Media Services Terms, and your purchase is also subject to those terms. Prices are shown in the app in your local currency and may change.
Because treats are a consumable digital good, all purchases are final and non-refundable except where a refund is required by law or granted by Apple. Refund requests for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not by us. Consuming treats (using AI features) reduces or eliminates any refundable amount.
At present, purchased treats do not expire. We may introduce an expiry, inactivity, or recurring-deduction policy in the future; if we do, we will give reasonable notice in the app or by other means before it takes effect.
Treat packs are one-time purchases. We do not automatically charge you on a recurring basis for treats. You choose if and when to buy more.
You agree not to misuse the Service. In particular, you will not: attempt to bypass the treats or billing system; reverse-engineer, scrape, or overload the Service; use it for unlawful, harmful, or abusive purposes; or attempt to extract our API keys, prompts, or other proprietary materials. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
Lessons, translations, voice, and other content are generated by AI and may contain errors or inaccuracies. The Service is for language-learning and entertainment and is not a substitute for professional translation, certification, or advice. Use your own judgement.
The Service, including its software, design, characters, and branding, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own learning. You retain rights to content you create; you grant us a licence to process it to provide the Service.
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI output will be accurate. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. Unused treats have no cash value and are not refundable on termination except where required by law.
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in our place of establishment, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have where you live.
